Welcome back,
First of all I must say I had quite the experience trying to set up me RSS feed, either I do not know how to work Firefox or how to read instructions, but in the end I got it figured out! One of the feeds on my Feedly is called College Blender and this is something that I found useful while I was reading it (even though as of right now there is only one post) I found that it mentioned the website Groupon, which I personally use and can imagine that many other students do as well because it is a great website to find deals on activities, shows, mini getaways, etc.
I think that this website is a great way for people to see everything that they are interested in, in one area and that I am going to continue to use this website even after the course has ended!
That's all for now!
Amanda :)

Weekly Reflection & Report - Week 2
Welcome back everyone!
One question that I never know how to answer is: "Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years?"
Truthfully I have no idea, I have ideas of where I want to be and what I want to be doing. But what I want to be doing is hopefully teaching full-time in a kindergarten to 4 classroom. This has been a dream of mine ever since I can remember, and I even remember being told stories about how when I was younger and I am talking about grade 1, where I would go and sit in the teachers chair at the front of the classroom and attempt to read to the class. So I guess being a teacher has always been something that I have wanted to do. And right now I am constantly working towards that goal everyday by trying my best in school and applied to teacher's college to continue working towards that goal. I know that it is going to be a bit of work in order to get where I want to be in the end, and I know that I may have to move or accommodate to where I am going to be able to achieve this goal.
Getting to where I want to be 5-10 years from now is going to take a lot of organization and with that comes different tools in order to do so such as my calendar on my Mac, and Pinterest is also a very helpful website in order to keep ideas organized. I also know that it is going to be a lot about making connections with other people, and I am able to do this by email, social media websites, as well as Skype. All of these tools are going to be important for me to get where I want to be because they are all going to be able to help me keep on top of everything that I either need to get done or want to get done.
One thing about environment is that we are able to change it to make it the best of us as it can be. For me in order to get my work done, or a place where I get my best work done would be in the comfort of my own home. I know some may like going out to a coffee shop to work, but for me that is to many distractions and I like it so that I am able to consecrate completely on what I am working on. I like it so that I am able to have some music playing in the background, just as some quiet background noise so that it is not completely quiet.
After I created my Personal Learning Environment (PLE) I am able to see that everything that I have included on it plays a part in some way of reaching my goal. I have learned form my PLE that there are multiple factors that come into play in order for someone to be able to get to their end goal. I also did not know before I sat down and did my PLE that there were so many factors contributing and helping me get to where I want to be within the next 5-10 years and I think that it is interesting to see that all of these individual factors play a role, whether it is a small or big role, they are all included in helping me.
I think that after using the Wordle tool this week, I am able to see what words I am frequently using and how they are all integrated with each other. I think this program is a good way for someone to learn about their writing style as well because they are able to see how they are connecting different ideas. I think that I learned that I am more involved in the digital world that I may have thought, considering that "digital" is the biggest word on my Wordle. I knew that I was let's say, well connected on the social media front, but I did not know that I was connected or involved as much as I am. This is a good way for people to be able to see where they stand when it comes to the technological world.
Until next time,
Amanda :)

Weekly Reflection & Report - Week 1
After looking at what it meant by having a digital footprint, I can honestly say that I am not 100% sure that I want a digital footprint. But after reviewing all of the social media, other websites and emails that I use, I find that is may be more difficult that I had originally thought. On the other hand having a positive digital footprint may not be a bad thing, because if you are thinking about what you are posting and making sure that it is appropriate for others such a potential co-workers or family and friends to see then having a digital footprint may not be a bad thing.
Some ways that could be used in order to create a positive digital footprint would be to make sure that you are only posting appropriate pictures, status', etc. on you social media webpages. This will help because then you are being cautious to what you are posting and what other people are able to see. Another strategy would be to make sure that what you are putting up is something that is going to be helpful to not just you, but towards others as well and to make sure that it is not going to make anyone upset.
When it comes to etiquette and a positive digital footprint the relationship between these two is that children and youth see how parents and teachers are using the internet and they think that, that's the way they should be acting while they are on the computer, or other technological devices. So many children will try to continue to act this way in order to not get in trouble and essentially keep a positive digital footprint.

When looking at digital citizenship and digital footprint, I am able to tell that they go hand in hand after considering the nine elements that go along with digital citizenship. The connection between these two would be that people need to have an understanding of these nine different concepts to see how they are influencing their digital footprint. I personally did not know all of the nine elements before taking this course or to be completely honest what it fully meant by having a digital footprint. But I am glad that I know now and know what it means to have a positive digital footprint. I do know that there is still more to know about the nine different concepts and I am looking forward to looking into them more and being able to relate them to my overall learning.
After completing the Digital Driver's License I got 17/20 correct, but I am able to see that there are some areas that I am going to need to read/learn more about such as digital law and digital rights and responsibilities. I believe that I know the basics for these to elements, but I feel as though I should gain a better understanding of them and I am hoping that as we continue through the class I will be able to do that.
After fully completely this weeks session I am able to say that I now know what digital footprint and digital citizenship (for the most part) mean and I am looking forward to what the rest of the course has to bring!
Until next time,
Amanda :)

All About Me
Hello Everyone!
I would like to officially welcome you to my first blog! A couple things about myself that I would like to mention would be that I am currently in my fourth year of Child and Youth Studies and Brock University. With it being my last semester of my last year I am busy with school, work and I am also volunteering within the school as well. I work at Union Station, which is essentially one of the food court's at Brock and I love it. I love working with fellow students and the overall atmosphere is always positive and a good time.
I am excited to be in my last semester of my undergrad, but at the same time I am nervous for my next journey which is teachers college (Fingers crossed!!). I have applied to 6 different teacher's colleges and will find out March 1rst where the next part of my journey is going to take me, whether is it going to be another two years at Brock or anywhere from Ottawa to North Bay. I am excited to be going into this part of my schooling because it is one step closer to where I want to end up, which is hopefully teaching grades 1-4.
So now that you know a little more about me, let me tell you why I wanted to take ADED 1P32...
I wanted to take this course because I am excited to advance what technological skills that I currently have right now. I am excited to learn to use different tools through out the course and how they are going to help me understand my overall digital world. I would also like to take as much as I can from this course and apply it to my field of work (once I get there of course!) and see how that can help me become a better teacher. I also wanted to take this course to help me refresh and further my communication skills which is something that I know personally I need to work on as I am shy at first and like to stay within my comfort zone as much as I can.
Check back for more next week!
Talk to you soon!
